Ambassador of the Philippines to Iraq Visits AUK
AUK welcomed Charlie Pacana Manangan, the Ambassador of the Philippines to Iraq. During the visit on May 6, AUK President Dr. Randall Rhodes highlighted the University's focus on healthcare and nursing education in the region as well as the importance of its internationalization strategy for advancing the teaching and learning at AUK.
Korean Consul General Visits AUK: Fostering Partnerships
AUK received Seungcheol Lim, the Republic of Korea's Consul General to the Kurdistan Region on May 8. Discussions focused on supporting students through scholarships and internationalization strategies that will advance the curriculum, learning outcomes, and professional opportunities of students.
AUK Job Fair 24: Over 30 companies represented
The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) conducted its second annual job fair on May 5, 2024, in line with the University’s theme of the month, "Achieve a Career." The event featured over thirty companies offering a variety of positions to AUK students and alumni.
In preparation for the event, the Office of Career Services provided students and alumni with a variety of trainings, including CV writing, interview preparation, job searching, and speaking skills.
AUK’s College of Arts & Sciences Hosts its Third Graduation Projects Expo
On May2, AUK's College of Arts and Sciences held its third Graduation Projects Expo, which featured twenty-three projects from three departments: Design, Computer Science & IT, and International Studies. Students presented their research, findings, and products to the guests.
AUK and IBB Launch Wikipedia Translation Project for Students
The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) and Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB) established the "Wikipedia Club" at AUK to promote cultural exchange by translating Kurdish articles into English.
Lina Akram, a lecturer at the university's College of Arts and Sciences, will manage the project, which will feature eight AUK students from various colleges and will be supervised by the faculty of AUK's General Education Program.
The collaborative effort emphasizes AUK and IBB's joint mission to promote knowledge accessibility, education, and empowerment within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, while also alleging with the university's theme of the month, "Achieve a Career," as it aims to serve as a platform for students to develop valuable professional skills.
AUK's Library Book Fair Promotes Personal Development
AUK's inaugural Book Fair, held from April 27 to May 5, showcased 250 books for sale to the public. English-language novels dominated with Kurdish and Arabic books also included. Students and alumni showed special interest in self-improvement books for their career development. The Fair exemplified AUK's commitment to fostering a culture of reading.
AUK Visits the Barzani National Memorial
On May 19, faculty, staff, and students of AUK visited the Barzani National Memorial. The memorial serves as a reminder of General Mustafa Barzani's significant contributions to the Kurdish cause, inspiring visitors with his legacy of resilience and dedication. The University commemorated General Mustafa Barzani in the naming of its first academic building.
Team ZAXO is the AUK Soccer Champion 2024
AUK's Student Government organized the Eighth AUK Soccer Championship Tournament, which concluded on Monday, April 29, with the final match where Team ZAXO defeated Team KURD by a score of 5-2. As a highlight this year, a team of AUK staff competed, but was unable to advance to the second round due to the stiff competition from the student teams.
